🔒 The short version: Foldiq processes your photo and video library on your device. We do not upload your library to Foldiq servers or run advertising. Where available, the macOS and Windows apps offer optional anonymous product metrics, disabled by default. If you opt in, Foldiq sends only the operation type, success status, app version, and broad ranges for duration and item count—never media, filenames, paths, dates, locations, or metadata. The foldiq.app website uses Vercel Web Analytics to count anonymous, aggregate traffic without cookies; purchase tokens and other URL query parameters are removed before a page view is sent.
1. Who we are
Foldiq ("the app", "we", "our") is a macOS and Windows application developed by Enrique Padrón. This policy covers the Foldiq apps and the foldiq.app website. If you have questions, contact enrique.padron853@gmail.com.
2. Information we collect
The Foldiq apps do not send your photo or video library to us. We do not receive file contents, filenames, folder paths, capture dates, locations, media metadata, advertising identifiers, or personal content from the apps.
We do process limited information when you use our website or purchase Foldiq:
- Purchase information: Stripe processes Windows payments and provides us with transaction identifiers, amount, purchase platform, customer name, email address, and billing details needed to fulfill and support the order. When a verified buyer requests the installer, we store a download count and first/last download time on that Stripe transaction so we can measure fulfillment and assist the buyer. We do not receive full card numbers.
- Order email: Resend processes the customer's email address and order-email content so we can deliver a confirmation and download link.
- Website requests: Vercel hosts foldiq.app and may process standard request information such as IP address, browser/device information, requested URL, timestamps, and operational logs for security and delivery.
- Anonymous website analytics: Vercel Web Analytics provides aggregate counts for visitors and page views, pages, referrers, broad location, device type, browser, and operating system. It does not use cookies or associate analytics events with an IP address or a persistent cross-site identity. Its daily visitor hash resets after 24 hours. Foldiq removes URL query parameters and fragments before analytics events are submitted, so Stripe checkout session identifiers are not included.
- Optional app product metrics: On macOS and Windows, you may enable “Help improve Foldiq anonymously.” It is off by default and can be disabled at any time. When enabled, the app reports whether a scan, organization, or undo operation succeeded, the app version and platform, plus broad ranges for duration and item count. A random app-install identifier is transformed into a one-way hash by our server so we can count active opted-in installations. We do not use this information for advertising or cross-app tracking, and the event does not contain media, filenames, paths, dates, coordinates, or metadata.
- Support requests: When you choose to contact us, we receive the name, email address, and message you submit. The Windows app can also prepare a short diagnostic summary for you to review and submit. That summary contains the app and Windows versions and recent scan stages or error messages; Foldiq removes photos, filenames, and folder paths. Nothing is sent until you press Send on the support form. Resend processes the support email for delivery.
- Mac purchases: Apple processes Mac App Store purchases under Apple's own privacy policy. Apple provides developers only the App Store reporting and customer-support information it makes available.
We do not use this information for targeted advertising and do not sell personal information.
3. How the app processes your files
Foldiq reads and reorganizes files stored on your computer's local storage or any directly connected drive. This processing happens entirely on your device using your operating system's built-in file and media frameworks.
Your media is not uploaded to Foldiq. If you enable organization by location on an Apple platform, GPS coordinates embedded in a media item may be submitted to Apple's Core Location geocoding service to obtain a country, state, or city name. On Windows, Foldiq first rounds each coordinate to two decimal places (roughly 1 km precision), then submits only that approximate coordinate to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service. Photos, videos, filenames, folder paths, and other media metadata are not included in these location requests. Results are cached locally to reduce repeat lookups. Foldiq does not receive or retain a location request on a Foldiq server.
If an original exists only in your iCloud Photos library, macOS may download it from Apple's iCloud service so Foldiq can export it to the folder you selected. This is an Apple system service operating on media you already store with Apple.
4. File access
Foldiq only accesses folders that you explicitly select using the macOS file picker or by dragging them onto the app. The app will not access, scan, or read any folder you have not deliberately chosen.
On macOS, file access is governed by the operating system's sandbox and security-scoped bookmarks mechanism. Foldiq stores bookmarks for selected folders to allow re-access within the same session. These bookmarks are stored locally on your device using macOS UserDefaults and are never transmitted anywhere.
5. Network access
Most organization features work locally. Apple-platform apps may connect to Apple for optional reverse geocoding and iCloud Photos retrieval. The Windows app may connect to OpenStreetMap only when you enable GPS-based folder naming. If you separately opt in to anonymous product metrics on macOS or Windows, the app connects to Foldiq's API for the limited operational event described above. We do not include advertising or behavioral-tracking SDKs in the apps.
6. Third-party services
We use Apple (Mac App Store, Core Location, and iCloud Photos), OpenStreetMap Nominatim (optional Windows location lookup), Stripe (Windows checkout and payment records), Resend (transactional email), Vercel (website/API hosting and anonymous Web Analytics), GitHub (Windows installer hosting), and Google Fonts (website typography). Each provider processes data under its own terms and privacy policy. We share only information needed for the relevant service.
7. Data storage
The Foldiq app stores locally on your computer:
- App preferences — organization mode, folder name preference, and other settings you configure. Stored in the operating system's local application-preferences storage.
- Location cache — place names returned by an optional GPS lookup, stored locally to avoid sending the same coordinate repeatedly.
- Undo manifests — a log of every file movement performed, stored as a local JSON or CSV file in a location you choose. This file stays entirely on your computer and is never transmitted anywhere.
- Security-scoped bookmarks — macOS file access tokens for folders you select. Stored in UserDefaults, used only to re-access the same folder within the app.
You can disable anonymous product metrics at any time in the app and delete local app data using your operating system's standard uninstall and preference-management mechanisms. Anonymous product events are retained for no more than 90 days. Purchase and transactional records are retained by us and our processors as reasonably necessary for order fulfillment, support, fraud prevention, accounting, legal compliance, and dispute resolution.
8. Children's privacy
Foldiq is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through a purchase or support request, contact us so we can review and delete it where appropriate.
9. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and provide any additional notice required by applicable law.
